Assalamu 3leikum

This is my first blog. I'm nervous and quite excited.

I chose this name because of the frequent reminders around us of how near Judgment Day seems to be. It's a subject I either think or talk about DAILY! I'm wondering if I am happy about this or scared. The world around us (including our own families) keeps changing so fast (unfortunately, for the worst).

Some of the signs; Death of scholars. Knowledge will be taken away (by the death of people of knowledge), and ignorance will prevail. We have, yet another man of knowledge whom has recently passed away (may Allah bless him). An Egyptian Sheikh, Mu7ammed Amr Abu Latif passed away just 3 weeks ago: (http://youtube.com/watch?v=Sek8OtRJ7HI&feature=related)

People find me pessimistic. They are quick to point out how far we have advanced in technology, science, trade, international relations, etc.

My answer to that is; we have advanced in the art of war, occupation and oppression. We've also gained skill in dance, sports & art (movie making, music & fashion). In addition have become the leaders in negotiating, deceiving, signing agreements, and passing bills (without just outcomes).

What about putting our efforts to make this a better world. It is evident that our efforts are put into making ourselves mightier. Leaving the poor, oppressed, orphaned and disabled to fend for themselves with a handful to help them.

All I've mentioned above is an opinion shared by many. What will we do about it???? I'm tired of talking about it, sharing it with others and blogging about it. Is everyone that is complaining like me doing something in their own small way. A small gesture like visiting an orphan in the hospital is such a BIG thing to the orphan that feels so alone, scared and cut off.

Why do we think that someone else is taking care of this? I'll tell you what that "someone else" is doing; they are working for personal gain in status & finances, going to the health club for personal satisfaction of the body, going shopping for personal desire through vanity, going to a party for personal fulfillment through entertainment and so on and so on and so on. It's all about the self (nafs).

Do something for someone else without expecting anything in return. Allah will know that you are doing it to please HIM. This is the ultimate "personal gain" for a servant of Allah. HIS happiness is our satisfaction. In the end, we are all going back to ALLAH, (swt).

Abdullah bin `Amr bin Al-`As (May Allah be pleased with them) reported: I heard the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) saying: "Verily, Allah does not take away knowledge by snatching it from the people, but He takes it away by taking away (the lives of) the religious scholars till none of the scholars stays alive. Then the people will take ignorant ones as their leaders, who, when asked to deliver religious verdicts, will issue them without knowledge, the result being that they will go astray and will lead others astray.''
[Al-Bukhari and Muslim].

Commentary: It is a sign of the nearness of the Day of Judgement that the world will be deprived of genuine religious scholars, and illiterate people will become leaders who will have neither the knowledge of the Qur'an nor that of the Hadith. Despite their ignorance of the Qur'an and the Hadith, they will be called Mujtahid (jurist entitled to independent reasoning) and Imam (leader) and will mislead people with their legal opinions and self-created problems. Besides urging us to acquire religious knowledge with a view to producing more scholars in the society, this Hadith also warns us against the ignorant self-styled `Ulama'. It also warns us against entrusting religious leadership to them.

This is your chance to read opinions from the other side . . . . . . . the side you always wondered about, but never had the courage to investigate further.
